The first annual Builders Contest was held at our February 15th luncheon get-together at the Redings Mill Inn at Redings Mill, Missouri. Our largest meeting ever, we had 37 in attendance for lunch today and 74 projects entered in the builders contest.

Who says that hams don't build any more? Can't prove that around here! The craftsmanship of the home constructed projects entered in the building contest was outstanding. The quantity of projects on display was overwhelming.  We had to carry in several additional tables to accommodate all the projects.

The 60 pictures that follow are "clickable" to view a larger image file.  Sorry about the download time, but we are trying illustrate what the Four State QRP'ers are building around here. Unfortunately, the photos of some projects did not turn out usable so a few projects may be missing.

Thank you to Joy, NQ5R for many of the photographs and also to his honor, Jay, W5JAY from the Ft. Smith QRP Group for being the presiding contest judge.  Both Walter, AG5P and Joy, NQ5R did a super job as contest coordinators in making this a very memorable event!

This table was loaded with transceivers and station accessories.

Rex, KC5UVN's White Mountain 20 SSB transceiver with digital dial is in the foreground.  His Rock-Mite in a tiny homemade case is to the right.   The blue box in the table center is John KBØISE's Rock-mite and his Warbler is on display in the vice on the left.

Dick, NØTGR made the coil winder, code practice oscillator (with key on-board) and RFI direction finding receiver.  In the back left corner is Jim WBØIYC's keyer.

The guests of honor, Kathy (WQ5T) and Jay (W5JAY) Bromley.  Jay was the presiding judge of the building contest.

The judging commences.  Jay, W5JAY drafted Joe WØMQY and Walter AG5P to assist in the judging.  Joy NQ5R keeps them honest.

The Augusta, Kansas contingent drove 186 miles each way to the meeting.  From left to right around the table clockwise is John KBØISE, Bill KØCIY, Dick NØTGR, Dennis, KCØIFQ and Larry ABØAH.

Jim Newton built this 100 KHz frequency standard, phase locked to a 60 KHz WWVB receiver for super long term stability.

Don, AE5K built this 144 MHz multimode DSP computer controlled QRP transceiver.  This project was built using surface mounted parts.

Dick, NØTGR made this nice NorCal homebrew paddle.

Larry ABØAH's home made paddles on a brass base.

KØETC's "retro rig".  A genuine 6AG7 crystal oscillator for 40 meters.  This is a modern copy of the transmitter Jay started with in 1956.

Jay found authentic 1950's vintage parts for this rig.  Notice the antique "postage stamp" capacitors.
