June's luncheon get-together was held on Saturday, June 15th at Barney's Kitchen in Seneca, Missouri. We had 12 folks for lunch today.

There were three special guests attending for the first time. Doug Hendricks, KI6DS of NorCal fame surprised us by dropping in from California. Doug reported all the latest news from NorCal and revealed some of the secrets of past QRP To the Field expeditions.

Tim Pettibone, K5OI and his wife Jan drove over from Stillwater, Oklahoma for lunch. Tim is an experienced QRP-L fox hunter and has recently moved to Oklahoma from New Mexico. Welcome to the Four State area Tim and Jan!

Doug Hendricks KI6DS and Kelly Ellison, WBØWQS checking out a NorCal 40A.

Tim, K5OI and Jan Pettibone having fun at lunch.

As usual, there were several rigs, books, QSL cards and keys to pass around for show and tell.

Gene Sailsbury, KCØIKY with his neat Sierra and 38 Special travel kit.

Lunch: The high point of the day!

Jay KØETC, Ira KD5AUX and Rex, KC5UVN discussing the fine points of QRP.

Foy Cochran, Joe WØMQY, Dale WDØGKC, and Doug KI6DS after lunch.

After lunch, instead of heading for the Seneca city park, we drove over to our Field Day site at Twin Bridges State Park in Oklahoma, about 8 miles west of Seneca. We wanted to see if the site would be satisfactory for QRP operation. We had three stations on the air from the park to check propagation.

Joe Porter, WØMQY built a very nice portable rotatable dipole antenna modeled after the W3FF design.

Doug and Kelly checking out Joe's antenna loading coils.

Joe Porter demonstrated his W3FF design rotatable dipole. The element is constructed of PVC pipe and a painters pole is the mast. It is self-supported using a homemade ground mount built from a piece of TV mast tubing and a large spike that us driven into the ground.

Doug really did drive here all the way from California just for our meeting!

Doug, KI6DS, passed out NorCal 7040 KHz crystals to everyone at the park and challenged us to each build something by next meeting. Who is up to the challenge? Stay tuned for the results of Doug's challenge next month.....

Gene KCØIKY on 20 meters SSB with his FT-817.

Gene's portable station. He is using a short vertical antenna with multiple radials made from ribbon cable.

Rex KC5UVN spent some time experimenting with some homebrew antenna tuners designed to work with half-wave wire antennas.

Rex Terry, KC5UVN and Dale Staggs WDØGKC on the air with a FT-817.

Rex trying out his White Mountain 40 meter SSB rig.

Looks like the park will be OK for Field Day. Although we did not get many QSO's today, the site does not have much power line noise.

Field Day will be June 22nd. Everyone is invited to drop in and try some QRP Field Day operating. Look for us at Twin Bridges State Park, just west of Wyandotte, Oklahoma.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, July 20th at Barney's Kitchen in Seneca. See you there!
