If you are looking for a project to share with the children in your family, scout troop, church group, especially one you want to learn Morse Code - THIS IS IT!
The Super Simple CPO is a two-transistor astable multivibrator circuit.
It is designed for young people, groups, and those new to electronics, soldering, and kit building.
It is very easy to build, the parts are wide spaced on the pc board, minimal parts count, and only two resistor values and one capacitor value.
It features capacitors with axial leads, and rugged TO-18 transistors, so that all parts mount flush, or close to flush, to the pc board surface.
This ruggedizes the assembly and prevents the tempation to wiggle parts and possibly breaking leads.
The speaker mounts to the underside of the board, with adhesive rubber feet providing clearance. Printed on the bottom of the board are the component color codes and the Morse code characters.
The part location is printed on the top.
Rugged metal clips hold the 9v battery in place - no flimsy wire connectors here! The whole circuit with battery, speaker and key is contained on the board.
Once the soldering is finished it's ready to try out.
Good quality components and thoughtful design ensure long term success and survival.
It will not be a throw-away item that gets broken as soon as it is taken home.
Boy Scouts have built a breadboard (literally a pine plank) version of this for many years as an Electronics Merit Badge project.
For them, it goes together in about an hour.
4-H groups have successfully built it also.
The frequency of the oscillator is about 700 Hz and isn't piercingly loud or "buzzy".
Mom and Dad shouldn't become annoyed and hide it from the kids.
This is an excellent group project, a quantity discount and combined shipping are available, 5 piece minimum order pse.
